What is Moissanite?
Moissanite is arguably the most beautiful stone in the world; first discovered in 1893 by a scientist from France known as Henri Moissan, who won the Nobel Prize in his field of Chemistry. Moissan discovered small particles of Moissanite that he discovered came from a meteorite. Initially, he believed that he had found diamonds but it turns out these stones were made up of silicon carbide.

Moissanite vs Diamonds
Some of the benefits of moissanite is in its value. It is much less expensive per carat than other stones such as diamonds but it has a higher refractive index of 2.65, while the diamond has a refractive index of 2.42, Moissanite being superior in terms of sparkle and shine. Moissanite’s fire rating is also 0.104, double that of a diamond at 0.044, making it show an amazing rainbow effect when hit by light. Moissanite also ranks second on the MOHS hardness scale at 9.25, only second to the diamond at 10; making it an incredibly durable stone. While diamond is a beautiful stone, Moissanite is the superior stone in regards to its brilliance and beauty, making it a great purchase at a fraction of the price.
